Review:
Wow, 7 labels gathered to release this album, which might lead one to think this is either a very important material everybody wanted to be a part of, or that the labels didn’t have that much trust in it and decided not to spend that much money on it. Well, looking at this band’s history and especially after playing this album I’d go for the first option, Osserp’s come-back after a 5 years silence proves it was well worth the waiting for their followers. The band was spawned 10 years ago and this is their third full-length album, one that instantly hits you with it’s absolutely stunning cover artwork that made me look for the artist who did it: Paolo Girardi from Italy and all his other works are like this one, dense, massive, oppressive, check them out. The 9 tracks featured here are the sonic “embodiment” of this cover art and vice-versa, we’re treated with a tremendously heavy, violent, suffocating and terrifying Death Grind with important Black Metal touches especially on building the overall atmosphere. Usually when there’s not much versatility on vocals I tend to consider an album might get boring after a while, but here although the vocals keep the same line, hoarse deep runts but cleverly upfronted within the mix, the instrumental part is incredibly varied and there’s so much to take in all the time that there’s no way you can get bored (well, if you’re into Death Grind that is). The lyrics are in Catalan, so only locals will understand them, and it seems they are talking about the insignificance of man in the universe, again it makes sense coupled with the music and artwork, a very good album from all angles! Also worth mentioning is the fact that the band mixes old-school with modern influences quite successfully and effortlessly.
